Chapter 1

This chapter lays the logical groundwork for valid inferences in deductive and probabilistic reasoning, which form the basis for scientific hypothesis testing. It briefly contrasts classical statistical hypothesis testing with the modern Bayesian approach, and demonstrates the basic utility of compiling statistics and performing data visualization while 'getting a feel' for data prior to performing formal analyses and hypothesis testing.
